Do Less. Do More.

The message we are bombarded with daily is “Do more, Do more, Do more”. As leaders, most of us need to hear “Do less!”
“The secret to concentration is elimination.”
Some people do in fact need to do more. But for leaders, this can be an easy trap to fall into. As Andy Stanley says, “The less you do, the more you enable others to accomplish”. While I don’t totally agree with this (because you have to also equip them, not just enable them) it does bring up a great point. I’ve recently learned that the things that drain the life out of me are the things that fuel other team members. I look at some administrative tasks and think “I hate this, I’m not good at it, but I better do it because nobody else likes it either”. But there are people on our teams that LOVE doing the things that we HATE. And, here’s a news flash: THEY’RE BETTER AT IT THAN WE ARE!
There are times when you have to be big boys and girls and do things you don’t like. But, what balls are you trying to juggle that someone else would be excited to take? What aren’t you handing those things off to team members? Do you not trust them? Do you think its your job as a leader to be good at everything? DO LESS and you will actually be positioned to DO MORE.
